Free Yourself From Fear and Self-Doubt

Fear and self-doubt are nothing but stumbling blocks that prevent us from doing what we are called to do. The fear of not measuring up or not being successful will continue to dictate your results and life if you let it. We allow fear and self-doubt to cripple us from doing the things we desire and know that God has destined us to do.

To be honest with you, fear and self-doubt have left me with nothing but regrets. I have let those thoughts stop me from chasing after certain opportunities, joining certain organizations, reaching out to people, being social, and even pursuing my dreams. The fear of failing, being inadequate, not having the right resources, or knowing the right people has held me back too many times than I like to admit. That fear and self-doubt stem from the enemy. Satan wants nothing more to create lies and false realities to whisper into our spirit. He uses those words to plant seeds into our minds. Then, unfavorable situations and/or people will come to water those seeds and produce fearful and doubtful thoughts that try to squash God's purpose for our lives.

It's time that you get to the root of those thoughts and dig up the weeds that Satan has planted in your mind. You have the power to create your own destiny, but when you let negative thoughts cloud your thinking, how can you move forward and continue in your purpose when you don't believe in yourself or God's purpose for you?

A lot of us women take things internally and blame our fear and self-doubt on character flaws, instead of addressing the real problem, which is a mindset and heart issue. Don't give the devil the satisfaction of claiming his tactics and characteristics for being the way you are. Don't let him win. YOU have the power to control your thoughts. It’s time to free yourself from fear and self-doubt and claim what's already yours. Here’s how you can do it.

If you find yourself becoming discouraged by certain people, blogs, or social media, you might need to cut those things out your life or fast from them. What you put into your mind is what you put out. If you know that looking at a certain blogger's Instagram makes you doubt your own capabilities unfollow them. It's okay to look at others and be inspired, but when it gets to the point where consuming certain content or being around certain people stifles your creativity or discourages you from living out your purpose, it's time to take a step back and revaluate things.

Speak daily affirmations over yourself.

I love how Henry Ford put it, "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't-- you're right." Our thoughts determine our course of action and results. The Bible also tells us in Proverbs 23:7 that, "As a man thinkeths, so is he." If you are thinking that you are inadequate, you will live a life that shows inadequacy. You have the opportunity to manifest your reality, so what do your thoughts say about you?

Engage in activities that bring you out of your comfort zone.

Nothing grows in its comfort zones. Even diamonds have to go through the fire and agitation to become the precious stones they are. Feel the fear and do it anyway. The growth and reward comes when we silence fear and self-doubt to take the leap and live on purpose. Nine times out of ten, the things we are most afraid of are the exact things we need to do to accomplish our destiny and God's plan for our lives.

Reach out to friends and family.

We can be our worse critics. It can be hard to see your strengths when you are so consumed by your weaknesses. If you are having a hard time giving yourself a confidence boost, turn to your loved ones for encouragement and advice. Bounce some ideas off them, or ask them to help you identify your strengths. God puts certain people in our life to help us grow and cultivate what's already there. It just takes some additional help to pull out and nurture.

Once I claimed responsibility over my thoughts, I was able to learn how to think on purpose to encourage and build myself up. My prayer for you is that you silence negativity and walk boldly in what God has called you to do. Exchange that fear for faith. Have confidence and know that you are more than enough and capable to live out your God-given dreams and purpose.

Consult not your fears but your hopes and dreams. Think not about your frustrations, but about your unfulfilled potential. Concern yourself not with what you tried and failed in, but what it is still possible for you to do.
— Pope John XXIII
